a day in the life

I read the news today oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh...(please tell me you all know what this is!!)

No not that day in the life, mine! I know I've said I will do this but forget but tomorrow I am really going to. Starting at midnight (or when I wake up after midnight given that I am sleeping) I will start snapping pictures of everything I do during the day, at least one a waking hour. It will be fun to chronicle what a day is like to show TC when she's older.

I don't really have anything planned for tomorrow, we've been on the go all week so I think we will stay home and catch up on chores. Today we went to Target and got her a little dress for Sunday and her grandfather sent her $20 for Easter so she bought Where the Sidewalk Ends, ♥ Shell Silverstein. Her first story will be The Giving Tree. Yup, will be, I have read her any kids books yet but it's OK - she has no idea what I am saying anyway. Perhaps tonight will be the night depending on how she is going to bed.

I am so excited for Doc to get home from work tomorrow, then it is 4 day weekend time!!

Couldn't you just eat her?

life is good

First I want to say hi to all the new followers! I am excited to check out all of your blogs and get to know you as well. It's so crazy that I started this a few years ago just to chronicle my life with Doc and it's blown up to this! Thanks so much for popping in :)

TC and I had our 8 week appointments yesterday and I am happy to say we both got a clean bill of health which means I am good to do something I've been missing out on since I had her. I am so excited because this is something that makes me feel amazing and so relaxed, the hotter it is and the longer it lasts the better. I really can't wait to take a bubble bath! What did you think I was talking about? Oh I got the go ahead to have sex again too ;).

It wasn't all good yesterday, TC got her first round of vaccinations and my happy quiet baby was miserable. She just wouldn't stop crying last night and couldn't be put down. I can understand, the poor thing. I am thinking I may space out the next round - would she feel better if she wasn't pumped with so much at once or would it just prolong her misery? I guess I will be doing some research. I eventually ended up sleeping on the couch with her in her swing. Her stats from yesterday, she's 11lbs 14oz and 22 inches long which makes her in the 60th percentile of height and 94th for weight - she a bowling ball haha!

They had me fill out a sadness survey and I realized that I have never been happier. I had no idea that I would enjoy motherhood as much as I do. I was so worried about postpartum depression and/anxiety but I haven't had anything. I am so blessed but I think my exercise routine and the fact that I do at least one thing for myself everyday is really helping. I have been so afraid of losing myself in this and I am doing the best I can to be both Mommy and Amber.

Today we had a busy day, we went to my old job and met all my old coworkers. She was still pretty cranky but she did pretty well. Then we went to Doc's work and met some of his bosses and watched him give guys shots as they came home. I gave her some Tylonol 4 hours ago and she's been out for the past 3. She hasn't really been interested in eating much today either. Hopefully by tomorrow she'll be back to this (I took this yesterday before the dr)

I thought things were getting better

I had mentioned that Doc's injuries seemed to be healing, I guess I didn't know what I was talking about. He came home from work on Friday and it looked like he had just seen a ghost, he told me that he was very disoriented. He shouldn't have driven himself home. His PA at work said to keep an eye on it and if he felt worse to go into the ER, around 9PM on Friday we went to the hospital. His headaches and neck pain spiked. We were there until 1:30 and Doc avoided a lumbar puncture (thank god) and the doctor said it didn't look like he was having an aneurysm so we went home. The good thing that came out of it is that a second rec for the TBI clinic was sent in. We are still waiting for them to call.

7 weeks

My baby girl is 7 weeks old today! Insane. Last night she slept in her crib, she did really well too. Slept from 12-6:30 with 2 feedings in there. At 6:30 she wanted to hang out with me so we napped for a few more hours. I am sure she got a better night's sleep than I did , I was up listening to the monitor and when I was sleeping I was dreaming about the monitor not working. Her room is directly across the hall from mine, I doubt I even needed the monitors.

Finally chubby enough for baby legs.

In other news, we are waiting to hear back from the TBI clinic on post. Doc's PA wants him to go there to get checked out. I guess he isn't happy with how long every thing is taking. I really hope they can see him soon. We need to know what's going on with him so we can calculate his next move. He's talking about a PCS out of our current unit and I am not sure if it's what he really wants or the TBI talking - I would hate for him to make a decision that he's going to regret.

homecoming

Had Doc not been allowed to come home early he would have arrived home last night with the rest of his company. I am so blessed that he didn't have to miss these first 7 weeks of TC's life, I think about how much she's changed and I can't imagine him missing that. It's nice to know that his company is home and the rest will be trickling in. Doc will have to go into work as they call come in and that is why he went in last night.

Unfortunately this is not the only homecoming I have to talk about, we lost a soldier last week and his remains came in in recent days. He was so young and had a very young son, it is just devastating. Doc worked with him the first year were were here and it hit him pretty hard. We are praying for him and his young family.

love these days

Another beautiful day in WA today, it was just a good day all around. This morning we (TC and I) went to Old Navy to pick up some clothes that I can were sans spanx. I got a cute pair of jeans for only $30 and like 7 t-shirts for $5-9 each, can't beat that! Oh and what's great is this shirt I got got $9 (I think) I remember seeing it when I was pregnant and really wanted it.

I'm still getting used to these boobs of mine, this is a large and it seems to be pulling! I also felt like a real mother, I had to feed TC in one of the fitting rooms. After a quick trip to World Market and the Gap (why did they get rid of the essential cut?) We headed home, windows down, sunroof open and old school house music on! What a great way to start the day.

I knew Doc's graduation was today but he wasn't sure if he wanted us to go but he texted at 1:09 that it was at 1:30 and told me where so I guess the meant we were going! We got there late which was OK because those things never start on time. One of Doc's buddies from work was the distinguished honor grad - Doc missed it b y 1 stupid point! He also didn't get the Leadership Award but being in the top 4 out of 200 is nice! TC was pretty good, she did burp really loud and made all the soldiers around us giggle. I've been to several graduations so it's not like it's new to me but it was pretty cool that TC was at her first army event and I think that is why I got teary eyed when the band played the cheesy army song.

I have a few good pictures but I can't edit them enough to post but this is a nice family picture, I just had to cut the top of his head off and cover his deployment patch :)

I'm glad this school is over, not happy that when he signed back in at work they told him he needed to report to work 2 hours later...more on that tomorrow.

In mommy news, TC seems to hate tomato soup - one more thing I can't eat. I gave her some stashed milk and had to pump so my boobs didn't explode and now I thinking I need to dump out that milk...do I really have to or will what hurts her magically disappear in the freezer?

23 March 2010

mini Vlog

I'm done! Doc loves me no matter my size (he been begging for sex so I must not be undesirable - poor thing has to wait a few more weeks). I took this after my work out today - that's the reason for the crazy hair, I really hope TC gets hr father's hair, and the classy SATC shirt . I may still talk about my work outs and maybe some weight milestones but none of this woe is me crap, I'm still a MILF to Doc and that's all that matters. Thank you so much for all the support, I wish I could give you all big hugs to show you how much I appreciate it.

But anyway, here it is and don't be surprised that I don't have a Boston accent - I've worked hard all my life to not have it but give me a few Sam Adam's and it's like the letter "r" doesn't exist.

22 March 2010

2 hands!

TC is napping in her crib so I can type with 2 hands! I don't really know how long this is going to last. I just need to vent, I have been stuck at 157ish for a few weeks, with all of my walking and working out (on day 8 of the Wii Active challenge). I'm not pigging out by any means so it's frustrating. I know, I know I am only 6 weeks out but I just want the progress to continue.

Here are the numbers, I am comfortable around 140 (really happy at 130 but those days have passed). I was 150 when I got pregnant and gained 35lbs so I topped out at 185. My goal is to get back to pre-pregnancy weight and once I hit that I will work on those last 10. I know things are still of in my body, I can't get my rings on over my knuckles yet and I am still retaining water pretty much all over so I am not going to push myself too hard. My postpartum appointment is on he 29th so maybe the dr will have some tips for me. I just want to feel pretty again.

21 March 2010

good job Doc

Sorry I haven't been blogging, now that I have a car I've been getting out of the house as often as possible! I do need to take this opportunity to brag a bit, Doc kicked ass in WLC. His 100% average was busted on Thursday on his last day of grading when one of his soldiers decided to open fire on Americans in the field so he'll have to settle with a 99.99%. He also made the Commandant's list and is going to the board on Monday for the Distinguished Leadership Award, out of over 200 students only 4 are going. We are really hoping he gets it, it would look really good for him.

Yesterday we were wondering how this is going to play to when he gets back to work. They will either be really happy that he worked through his injuries and represented the Battalion well or they will get on him about being healed enough to do so well there he should have been able to go to the other school they want to send him to. The two schools are night and day and they know this so it will be interesting to see what they say. Either way I am so proud of him and I would bet that he only needs about another month of recovery before he'll be able to go to the next school and roam around the woods for 3 months.

And for fun, here is the most adorable baby in the world:

updates

My sister: she emailed me and said thanks for the card and told me that TC is beautiful. I emailed back some small talk and will call her next week if I don't hear anything. I'm not going to say sorry but life is too short to not talk to people you love.

My stepfather: he had his surgery last week and they ended up doing a quadruple bypass which he came out of very well. He was up bothering the nurses later that night (bothering is putting it nicely, bless those nurses for putting up with him). He's home now and doing well, I am going to call tomorrow and bust his balls.

Doc: he's been feeling much better, the profile seems to be helping (profile - he isn't doing as much physical activity at work) The other day there was a competition in the school that he's in and he couldn't resist so he ran sprints and immediately got a headache so I guess he still has some swelling. His attitude has been MUCH better, he hasn't snapped at me recently :)

TC: she's amazing, she's actually napping in her crib! She's been sleeping all day which makes me nervous, it might be another late night. I LOVE that kid, I can't even stand it.

Crickets

well D has to have gotten my get well card by now and I haven't heard so much as a chirp from her. Well I guess I can sleep better know I tried.

Sucks

12 March 2010

boring...

Things are very boring around here, I seem to have a bit of a routine down which is nice. It's up at 8 to feed the baby then we hang out and I try to make her laugh for the first time for about an hour or so. Then she takes a nap and is usually up around 1 to watch Days with me :). If it's nice out we take a walk from 2-3:30. There are lots of diaper changes and feedings in there too. The rest of the afternoon is still up in the air but I don't get much done because TC likes to hang out with me. While she is napping in the morning I can usually get some things done, yesterday I got a good amount of cleaning done and today not a bad workout. The big news is that I have been able to shower every day this week!

I can't wait for Doc to be done with this school, having him home at a decent hour to help out will be great. As for his career change, he's getting phone numbers and still gathering info, hopefully we will know if it's a possibility soon.

10 March 2010

baby tunes

It's a struggle to come across appropriate songs to sing to TC when we are having our bonding time. The music on my iTunes has a lot of stuff from college and although she doesn't know what I'm saying I just don't think it's appropriate to sing Sublimes "Caress Me Down" to my 5 week old. I've tried singing from memory but it seems that I have no idea what happens in patty cake after you roll it and This Little Light of Mine must have been extinguished because I can't get passed the first line...oh God, I just realized that I am a lot like my mother - the first song I remember singing as a child is Yellow Submarine and that's a very early memory because my parents were still together! *shudder* Lets hope that's where the similarities end. Maybe my kid will grow up singing OAR and Dropkick Murphys...

08 March 2010

what could make me feel this way?

my girl, talking 'bout my girl...

I can't stand it, this kid makes me so happy. I have no idea what is going to happen a few months from now, Doc is talking about changing jobs again. He seems to do this ever 18 months or so but this time it might actually happen, maybe. Whatever he wants to do - I just want him to be happy and I can adapt pretty much anywhere. This may just be the head injury talking though. What he does right now is pretty bad ass but he said he doesn't have anything else that he needs to prove to himself - if he can do something a little safer I'm all for it. Unfortunately this change wouldn't bring us any closer to home we would just slide down the west coast.

This opportunity doesn't have a huge window so this should be resolved either way soon, I just hope this is what he really wants and it's not just the head injury talking.

OK now back to blowing bubbles on the cutest baby feet know to man!

what could make me feel this way?

07 March 2010

milestone!

No not for the baby, today was a milestone for me. Are you ready for this????? I wore jeans with a zipper on them today!! Yup, I squeezed my chubby self into my size 6 jeans today. The muffin top was impressive but I was able to get the jeans zipped and buttoned, sure they may have been 2 sizes too small but they were on :)

It's so weird for me to have such a soft midsection, even when I've had a few extra pounds on me I've never had such a soft belly, I really need to start working on my core. I am not beating myself up over and of this but my maternity jeans are falling off and my real jeans too small - I am giving myself 2 weeks to shrink that muffin top down to one size too small before I go out and buy new jeans.

Not eating ice cream will help.

Oh and thanks for all the tips coming in through the comments, I know I haven't been able to respond to everyone but I really do appreciate tips from moms who know.

06 March 2010

just say no

Just say no to ice cream, it's a sad day when you realize that something you love so much causes someone you love pain. When I eat ice cream TC gets scream-for-hours gas. She cried from 10-2 last night, we ended up sleeping on the couch. Knock on wood, it's not all dairy and I hope it stays this way.

About the dog, it's still here. His owner knows that it's a trial run for us, Doc would NEVER just bring one home without consulting me, I said we could give it a try. He and Moses are buddies again so that makes it a little easier.

Doc has tomorrow off! I am so excited to spend some time with him, he's been leaving the house at 4AM and getting home around 8PM. And by "spend time with him I mean let him take care of the baby haha. I have 4 bottles worth of milk in the freezer, maybe I will run away for the day ;)

04 March 2010

woof

I am sure you figured out that Doc brought home a dog...not just a dog but a puppy...not just a puppy but a terrier puppy! I guess one of the young guys at work is going through a divorce and had to move and was unable to find a place that takes pets. He would like to get the dog back when his lease is up in 6 months. Doc has wanted another dog and I have been telling him no but we feel bad for this kid. But I really do not want another dog especially one we can't keep.

And he's a puppy, I have to watch him which is not easy with a baby attached to my boob! He's tried eating shoes, he peed on the floor (hello dog, you have to tell us that you want to go out!) and he was attacked by Moses. OK the last part is Moses's fault but he's not used to sharing his toys. I am still not 100% on board and it makes it hard because Doc is just so happy and Moses seemed to enjoy having someone to play with but it's getting old. They haven't played at all today.

I hate to be the bad guy but I've given it a week and it's not working. Normally I am very tell it like it is but I think I'm going to tell Doc that the landlord saw my post about the puppy on facebook and said we can't keep him. Bad I know, but I can't stand making him sad. He can get a puppy wen he's home to train it.

Here is Moses and the puppy back when they were friends (before Moses attacked him)

FYI: I typed this with one hand, with a hiccuping baby on my lap, despite the puppy problems I have an amazing life.

out of this world

Anyone remember that show? Evie could stop time by connecting her index fingers, a perk of having an alien for a father. I wish I had this ability, TC was born just over 3 weeks ago and I can't believe how fast she's growing! Check out these pictures, the first is from the day she came home from the hospital and the second is from yesterday - I can't get over how much bigger she is.
I don't remember saying she could grow so quickly! I did cry a little bit when I saw these pictures next to each other.

I haven't really been blogging much, without my work drama and Doc on rear D there isn't much going on, I drove yesterday for the first time in a week and a half! I only left the house in that time to walk with the baby and Moses. But I did have a good reason to go out yesterday, my friend had her baby on the 25th and I went to meet her yesterday! I am so excited for her, bummed that she had to have a c-section when she really wanted a natural birth but the outcome was a beautiful baby girl so in the end all is good. I can't wait until and TC are able to play together - how fun for them.
Tomorrow I will tell you about what Doc brought home from work with him on Friday, I'll give you a hint - it peed on my floor and ate some mail today - fun...
